Democrats Considering ACA Changes To Allow More People To Keep Insurance.

Roll Call (11/14, Shiner, Subscription Publication) reports that on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that on Thursday, Democrats in the Senate “will hold a closed-door full caucus meeting…with Obama administration officials to discuss their growing concerns” about the ACA. The Hill (11/14, Bolton) noted that “several Democrats have signed onto a proposal sponsored by Sen. Mary Landrieu…that would force insurance companies to let people keep their health plans if they like them.” USA Today (11/14, Davis) reports that while two of Landrieu’s co-sponsors, Sen. Kay Hagan and Mark Pryor, “are also running for re-election in 2014 in conservative states,” Landrieu’s legislation “has also drawn support from” Sens. Jeff Merkley of Oregon and Dianne Feinstein, “who are not facing re-election.”
The Wall Street Journal (11/14, Hughes, Hook, Nelson, Subscription Publication), in a front-page article titled “Obama Open To Health-Law Change,” portrays the White House as far more likely to back Landrieu’s bill than most other outlets do. The Journal notes that on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, “Sen. Landrieu’s proposal shares a similar goal to what the president has asked his team to explore. There may be ways to help some people with cancellation notices without legislation, but we are happy to work with her and any member of Congress who has ideas on how to make the Affordable Care Act better.”
The New York Times(11/14, A1, Parker, Shear, Subscription Publication) reports that Landrieu contrasted her bill with the legislation introduced by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), which the House is considering.
